Epiphone Les Paul Standard (FMT) Reviews 4

You should find these guitars for right around $450 new. That's a great price for a budget friendly Les Paul type instrument. These guitars have the same controls as you refund and also to volume control knobs as well as the two tone control knobs. All the features and even the look is basically right down to the Gibson Les Paul guitar. I really... [read more on Audiofanzine]

The aftermarket pickups in this really gave the guitar new life. However, they don't come with those stock. You'll want to spend a few bucks and upgrade those. While you're at it, add some locking tuners to help with string install. That should help make tuning more stable. Check for any possible nut and fretwork issues when you buy one. I got it from Guitar Center in Atl. for about $500. I got it because i wanted the legendary LP sound and looks for a fraction of the price.

I like the FMT (flamed maple top). Mine is Heritage Cherry Sunburst. I love the pearl trapizoid inlays, they really work well with the cherry sunburst. Also, I hate Flyod Rose tremelos (they're a pain in the neck when restringing), so the stop tail works well for me.

I hate the plastic "vintage" tuning keys....replace them w/ some Grovers or Sperzels. Also, I dont really like the stock humbuckers. I dropped in a Gibson Dirty Fingers in the bridge and a Seymour Duncan '59 in the neck....a killer combo!! Also, i installed a coil-tap switch so i can achieve that clear, bright SC tone, yet still have that low, dark tone of a palm-muted humbucker. I took out the sucky tuners and put in some Sperzel Locking tuners (my strings stay in tune like 10 million times better). I wish it was a bit lighter too. :(

sturdy as a rock. i am part of a 4-piece punk rock / 80's rock band and my fellow axe-slinger is always wanting to use my LP! im not "NO WAY!!" theres a reason why he always shows up w/o his gtr. and says "oh i was in a hurry and forgot my guitar, can i use yours and you can handel vocals??" lol....i've never had any problems besides cosmetical, the pickups and tuners..stuff like that

a very soild choice. if you're unshure about buying a new guitar (or your first one!), you cant possibly go wrong w/ the affordable, versitale Epiphone Les Paul!!
